Steps

  1. Prep
    1. Pour oil into a small sauce pot and add the ginger, green onions, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, star anise, cloves, fennel seeds, and cumin seeds. A pot of simmering oil with spices and aromatics
    2. While the oil is simmering, add the red pepper flakes, the Sichuan peppercorns and the sesame seeds to a medium sized bowl.
    3. Once the spices are slightly browned along with the green onions, take the oil off the heat and pour it through a strainer into the bowl of chili flakes, peppercorns, and sesame seeds. Be careful! Straining oil Pouring hot oil over chili flakes
